Director, Cost Management

Overview

As Director, Cost Management you lead the Cardiff cost management team to shape growth and service delivery. You drive revenue, guide strategy, and develop talent while maintaining governance and strong client relationships. Your role combines senior leadership, business development, and expert cost management to deliver high-quality outcomes for clients and the business. You will shape the team’s capability and contribute to the broader Gleeds objectives in the UK and globally.

Responsibilities

• Formulate and manage strategies to meet business objectives
• Identify and drive new business development and growth
• Ensure projects follow Gleeds governance and processes
• Agree fees, appointments, and scope of services
• Manage service delivery against appointments and client requirements
• Lead resource planning, workload allocation, and compliance (appraisals, timesheets)
• Develop and enhance cost management capabilities
• Prepare bids for services and manage profitability
• Oversee client relationships and resolution of issues
• Interface with clients and stakeholders at senior levels
• Monitor financial aspects including invoices, payments, and debt management

Key requirements

• Extensive cost management experience post MRICS
• Experience in cost estimating and cost planning techniques
• Practical knowledge of construction methods and materials
• Knowledge of procurement strategies, tendering and contracts
• Experience administering construction contracts
• Understanding of building legislation
• Strong communication and negotiation skills
• Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
• Ability to motivate and develop staff
