Overview

In this role you will lead HV/LV commissioning across switchgear, substations and critical power systems up to 33kV, supporting diverse projects UK-wide and internationally. You will perform testing, fault diagnosis, and modifications, working hands-on with customers to ensure safety and technical excellence. The role spans ATS, EV charging integration, and protection/control systems, contributing to reliable power distribution and project handover. This is an impact role in demanding environments with cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Perform commissioning on HV/LV switchgear, substations, transformers, protection systems up to 33kV
  • Execute functional testing, secondary injection testing, relay configuration, protection verification
  • Oversee installation supervision, commissioning, maintenance, modifications, refurbishment and fault diagnosis
  • Support energisation, system integration and handover
  • Lead technical investigations resolving protection, control and network defects
  • Assist commissioning on ATS systems and EV charging infrastructure
  • Carry out FAT and SAT where required
  • Assist with customer witness testing and final project acceptance
  • Review drawings, procedures and test procedures for readiness and allocate activities with project managers
  • Mentor junior engineers as needed
  • Document test results, prepare site reports and ensure timely submission
  • Verify calibration and suitability of test equipment
  • Deliver customer training and technical support
  • Support in preparing quotations and proposals for site activities

Key requirements

  • Minimum 5 years in HV/LV commissioning, protection testing, and electrical distribution systems
  • Experience installing, commissioning, maintaining, and fault-finding on switchgear and substations up to 33kV
  • Ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary teams
  • Experience on UK, overseas and offshore projects
  • Strong background in protection and control systems commissioning
  • Experience supervising commissioning activities and site teams
  • Strong communication and client-facing abilities
  • Proactive problem-solving and fault-finding mindset
  • Self-motivation and ability to work with limited supervision
