Senior Fire Protection Engineer

Overview

In this role you will lead the design and delivery of fire protection systems for a range of building projects, ensuring safety and code compliance. You will work with cross-functional teams across Canada to influence technical directions and mentor junior staff while advancing a national fire protection practice. Expect involvement from concept through construction, with field verification and client coordination. This position offers hybrid work, occasional travel, and the opportunity to shape fire safety outcomes on institutional, commercial, industrial, and infrastructure projects.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of fire protection systems ensuring safety and code compliance
• Perform hydraulic calculations and system sizing per NFPA and Canadian codes
• Create and review drawings, specifications, reports using BIM/CAD
• Conduct fire and life safety code analyses and guide project teams
• Resolve complex technical challenges with advanced engineering judgment
• Contribute to standards and guidelines for fire protection practices
• Lead or participate in project coordination meetings with stakeholders
• Oversee field investigations and verify installation quality and design compliance
• Mentor junior staff and support skill development
• Support proposal work, client meetings, and business development initiatives

Key requirements

• Strong knowledge of fire protection engineering principles and building systems
• Comprehensive NFPA, NBCC, and NFCC knowledge
• P.Eng. licensed in Canada (or eligible)
• 8+ years of relevant experience in fire protection engineering
• Experience with sprinkler hydraulics calculations (HydraCAD/HydraCalc)
• Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, and BIM/CAD tools
• Ability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams across project phases
• Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills
