Principal Civil Infrastructure Engineer (Development)

Overview

As a Civil Engineer leading development delivery, you drive technical design across feasibility to construction, specializing in drainage, flood risk, SuDS, highways and utilities. You will lead multiple multidisciplinary projects, mentor the team, and manage client and stakeholder engagement to deliver on time, within budget and to high-quality standards. The role sits within a high-performing Planning and Development unit focused on sustainable, multi-sector development. Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day technical delivery for drainage, flood risk, SuDS, highways, earthworks and utilities across development projects
• Act as Project Manager on diverse multi-disciplinary schemes and provide guidance to junior staff
• Engage with clients and stakeholders, coordinating design teams and external professionals
• Ensure projects are delivered on budget, on programme, and compliant with technical and legal standards
• Produce infrastructure masterplans, site appraisals, technical reports, design calculations and construction drawings
• Demonstrate knowledge of relevant design codes and prepare drawings for contract documentation and approvals
• Coordinate with highway, water authorities and local authorities for technical approvals and agreements
• Support development lifecycle from pre-feasibility to planning consent and scheme implementation
• Stay informed on climate change and sustainability guidance and apply to designs
• Collaborate within a large, global team to improve delivery processes and client value

Key requirements

• Experience in highway design, drainage strategies, flood risk assessments, utility design and development sector awareness
• Design experience focused on drainage, flood risk, highways, earthworks and utilities
• Knowledge of hydraulics, hydrology, geotechnics and building structures is desirable
• Ability to produce masterplans, site appraisals, technical reports and construction drawings
• Familiarity with Water UK Sewerage Sector Guidance, Design Manual for Roads & Bridges, Manual for Streets, SuDS Manual and related approvals
• Proficiency with Micro Drainage, Info Drainage, Civils 3D and/or PDS
• Experience liaising with clients, design teams and authorities for approvals and agreements
• Understanding of planning, design, consents processes, adoption and contract procedures for sewers, SuDS, highways and utilities
• Knowledge of financial and contractual aspects of bidding and delivering projects
• Postgraduate (or equivalent) experience and nearing Chartership or equivalent
• Willingness to pursue ICE Supervising or Delegated Civil Engineer qualifications
