Mechanical Design Engineer

Overview

In this role you will lead mechanical building services design from concept through detailed delivery to support greener, smarter buildings. You’ll work within a collaborative team in Southampton on new builds, refurbishments and energy-efficiency projects. You drive practical solutions with net-zero thinking and high-quality outputs. You’ll engage across surveys, calculations and documentation to deliver tangible, sustainable building systems.

Responsibilities

• Carry out site surveys and condition surveys
• Design heating, hot and cold water, ventilation, cooling, drainage and low/zero-carbon systems
• Produce AutoCAD drawings, specifications, equipment schedules and technical submissions
• Complete design calculations using industry software
• Support project management and contract administration

Key requirements

• Mechanical building services design experience
• Confident AutoCAD skills
• Good attention to detail and practical, solutions-focused mindset
• Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office
• Full UK driving licence
