Director, Product Design

Overview

As Senior Design Leader at Funding Circle, you will shape design strategy and execution to simplify the complex lending journey within a regulated fintech environment. You will partner with the VP of Product and VP of Engineering to redefine how design works across the company, elevating discovery, strategy, and delivery. You’ll own the hardest experience challenges, drive design excellence, and mentor top design talent while leveraging AI to boost efficiency. Responsibilities

• Partner with VP of Product and VP of Engineering to reset the operating model for design across the company
• Own complex, time-sensitive experience problems within regulatory constraints to simplify lending from application to servicing
• Move design upstream to influence discovery and strategy, demonstrating the value of design thinking
• Set the standard and cadence for design excellence and ownership across the organization
• Support, nurture, and hire top design talent to execute the strategy
• Act as senior, hands-on leader to steer and deliver on strategic bets
• Drive measurable improvements in customer problems solved and business outcomes

Key requirements

• Experience leading design in complex, highly regulated environments like fintech
• Ability to translate dense Risk and Compliance rules into intuitive customer journeys
• Strong partnership with senior Product and Engineering leaders to shape strategy and roadmaps
• Exceptional hands-on craft and ability to coach senior designers
• Commercial focus with data/research informing design impact on business outcomes
• Track record building and developing design teams and advancing design operations
• Ability to redesign departmental workflows and use AI to automate tasks and improve efficiency
• Capability to identify high-impact AI use cases and implement advanced prompting techniques
