Technical Manager

Overview

As Technical Manager you will lead food safety, quality and compliance across the site, upholding the QMS and ensuring legislative alignment. You’ll drive HACCP, VACCP, TACCP and traceability while fostering a strong food safety culture. You will work with senior leadership and operations to maintain standards, deliver training, and develop the Quality Assurance and Laboratory teams. This is a hands-on role focused on continuous improvement and regulatory excellence.

Responsibilities

• Manage and maintain the Food Safety & Quality Management System (QMS)
• Lead and review the HACCP plan and verification activities
• Oversee HACCP, VACCP, TACCP, Food Defence, and traceability systems
• Ensure compliance with BRCGS, GMP, FEMAS and UK/EU legislation
• Maintain technical documentation, supplier approvals, certificates, and records
• Handle customer and supplier technical documentation requests
• Plan and conduct internal audits and drive CAPAs
• Manage document control and review processes
• Collaborate with production to keep procedures and standards up to date
• Manage relationships with pest control and cleaning contractors and drive continuous improvement
• Monitor cleaning effectiveness through audits and verification
• Develop and deliver food safety training across the business
• Support Health & Safety training initiatives with operations
• Lead, coach and develop the Quality Assurance and Laboratory Teams
• Deputise for Head of Technical when required

Key requirements

• Experience as Technical Manager or Senior QA/Technical role in food manufacturing
• Strong knowledge of HACCP, QMS and auditing
• Experience with BRCGS, GMP and relevant standards
• Excellent understanding of UK food legislation and compliance
• Experience managing audits, supplier approvals, and technical documentation
• Strong leadership and team development skills
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management
