Senior HSE Engineer

Overview

In this role, you will advance HSE engineering within McDermott, guiding colleagues and applying discipline expertise to solve complex problems. You’ll steer projects through conceptual to detailed analyses while ensuring compliance with standards and client requirements. You’ll collaborate across disciplines to deliver safe, compliant designs and support safety studies and risk reduction initiatives. This position offers impact across projects and the energy transition, with a focus on fire protection, safety systems, and hazard studies. You will lead and mentor junior engineers, shaping robust HSE deliverables.

Responsibilities

• Lead small project engineering efforts and manage design work across conceptual to detailed analyses
• Prepare and review design calculations, reports, and procedures
• Coordinate with other departments and disciplines to integrate inputs
• Support bid proposals, estimates, and technical queries
• Prepare HSE and fire protection philosophies, safety study scopes, and equipment specifications
• Contribute to safety workshops (HAZID/HAZOP) and close-out reports
• Review vendor/subcontractor data and provide comments for compliance
• Mentor less experienced engineers on procedures, standards, and software
• Assist procurement in selecting and expediting discipline equipment and services
• Provide inputs to P&ID markups, firewater systems, and safety layouts
• Maintain visibility of scope, schedule, budget, and progress with Lead Engineer/PEM

Key requirements

• 8-15 years of experience in oil and gas with a major contractor or consultant predominantly performing detail design
• Strong knowledge of design techniques and standards, codes and guidelines
• Preferably Registered Professional Engineer or professional engineering society member
• Ability to identify scope changes and produce change notifications with supporting documentation
• Experience with safety studies, fire protection, and multidisciplinary coordination
