Automation & AI Engineer

Overview

In this role you design and operate agentic AI and intelligent automation solutions to enable autonomous decision-making, planning and task execution at scale. You will integrate AI capabilities into enterprise platforms, collaborate across Technology, Data and Digital, and help establish safe, governance-driven standards for AI across a global organisation. You’ll work with Microsoft Foundry, Copilot Studio, Power Platform and Azure to build reliable, auditable automation. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on delivering scalable, responsible AI-enabled workflows with measurable impact. Responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain agentic AI and automation systems for intelligent decision-making and autonomous task execution
• Translate business challenges into agent-based solution architectures, selecting models, memory strategies and control patterns
• Develop AI-enabled workflows with orchestration, adaptive behavior, exception handling and safe escalation
• Design agent orchestration using Semantic Kernel, LangChain or equivalent
• Build and optimise Retrieval-Augmented Generation pipelines grounded in approved knowledge sources
• Engineer prompts, tool-use patterns and planning strategies for reliable outcomes
• Integrate AI agents with core applications, APIs and enterprise data services
• Productionise solutions with DevOps/MLOps practices focusing on reliability, scalability, observability and support
• Monitor performance, drift, hallucination risk, incidents and service degradation
• Implement guardrails and human-in-the-loop controls with auditability
• Contribute to reusable AI/automation standards and engineering best practices
• Communicate designs, outcomes, risks and opportunities to technical and non-technical stakeholders

Key requirements

• Hands-on engineering experience in complex enterprise environments
• Proven track record delivering production-grade AI-enabled automation or decision-support solutions
• Experience with agentic AI, autonomous workflows, orchestration and goal-driven architectures
• Strong knowledge of Generative AI, LLMs and agent-based system design
• Experience with guardrails, human oversight and escalation in autonomous solutions
• Expertise in Microsoft Power Platform (Power Automate, Power Apps, Copilot Studio)
• Experience with Microsoft Foundry (Foundry Models and Foundry Agents Service)
• Understanding of agent integration standards such as Model Context Protocol and Agent-to-Agent
• End-to-end ownership of complex technical problems from design to operation
• Ability to work autonomously in evolving environments and manage priorities
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management
• Tertiary qualification in CS, Engineering, Data Science or related field, or equivalent experience
