Overview

In this role you will set and implement the regional commercial strategy to drive cost efficiency and procurement success. You’ll monitor costs, manage procurement and subcontractor activity, and report financial performance to the local board. As a member of the management team, you’ll lead the commercial staff and ensure alignment with group targets. You will shape value through close collaboration with design and engineering teams, delivering projects that support profitability and sustainable growth.

Responsibilities

  • Define and execute regional procurement and design strategies in collaboration with other Directors
  • Monitor commercial viability of development schemes throughout the lifecycle
  • Communicate business unit strategy to the department and track progress against targets
  • Develop and refine procurement strategy with input from design/engineering teams
  • Oversee subcontractor orders and financial controls across multiple projects
  • Prepare and review budgets and costs, reporting to the MD and Board
  • Lead and motivate Surveyors, Buyers and Estimators; conduct regular performance reviews
  • Foster cross-functional relationships within the local management team to support health and safety and customer care
  • Drive towards land bank, profit, return on capital and sales targets
  • Attend strategic meetings (Pre-tender, Pre-start, specification) and support the operating framework
  • Establish an effective departmental structure to deliver the business unit strategy
  • Manage and develop the commercial team to optimise performance

Key requirements

  • Previous experience of working with a developer
  • At least 2 years experience at Senior Management level in a commercial role
