Overview
In this role, you operate in Capital on Tap’s 2nd line FinCrime team to oversee compliance, challenge 1st line activities, and guide offboarding or reporting decisions. You will help own and run the compliance monitoring programme, design reviews and tests, and keep AML/CTF policies aligned with regulatory changes. You’ll contribute to the Financial Crime Risk Assessment and provide governance on complex escalations. This is a chance to shape robust controls within a high-growth fintech.

Responsibilities
- Oversee and challenge 1st line FinCrime operations and escalations
- Help own and run the compliance monitoring programme, including thematic reviews and control tests
- Maintain AML/CTF policies and risk appetite standards, updating in response to regulation and audits
- Contribute to the business-wide Financial Crime Risk Assessment (FCRA) and propose proportionate controls
- Review 1st line UAR referrals, assess quality, and support MLRO on external disclosures
- Serve as 2nd line SME for complex escalations (PEP, sanctions, adverse media, ownership structures) with governance focus
- Produce management information and compliance reporting for senior leadership and governance committees
- Support horizon scanning and translate regulatory changes into practical impacts for the business
- Coordinate with internal teams on law enforcement requests and partner bank inquiries
- Remain independent, challenge the business when controls fall short and maintain governance standards
Key requirements
- 3+ years in a 2nd line FinCrime or AML role within a regulated UK financial services firm (financial crime focus on business customers)
- Experience designing or running a compliance monitoring or control testing programme
- Strong knowledge of UK Money Laundering Regulations 2017, JMLSG guidance, and POCA in practice
- Experience contributing to or owning a financial crime risk assessment at business/product level
- Ability to review SAR quality and challenge 1st line decisions; SAR writing is useful but not essential
- Comfort presenting findings to senior stakeholders and governance forums
- Sharp analytical thinking and clear written communication for reports and policy documents
- Ability to work independently and constructively challenge controls when needed
- Nice to have: strong presenting skills, SQL, advanced Excel, ICA Diploma or ACAMS accreditation
