Overview

As Associate Structural Engineer in Ramboll’s UK Healthcare Team, you help deliver advisory and design solutions for hospitals and healthcare facilities, shaping sustainable, low-carbon projects. You’ll lead multidisciplinary delivery, liaise with clients, and contribute to a portfolio that spans the UK and beyond. The role blends technical design with project management in a collaborative, flexible environment. You will help drive digital design innovation and sustainable outcomes at scale.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop the UK Healthcare Team of Structural Engineers
  • Manage your own projects and deliver design from concept to detail
  • Act as structural engineering project manager, coordinating resources and deadlines
  • Collaborate with MEP, civils, and geo-tech colleagues across disciplines
  • Raise the profile of the UK Healthcare Team with clients and stakeholders
  • Develop structural concepts and design philosophies for healthcare projects
  • Liaise with clients and represent Ramboll at project meetings
  • Communicate designs to teams and on-site construction teams
  • Implement best-practice to deliver sustainable, zero-carbon advisory and design services
  • Visit sites to support design development and review works
  • Support continuous improvement through technical group participation and team initiatives
  • Take ownership of team improvement initiatives

Key requirements

  • Must have demonstrable experience with UK Healthcare sector projects (UK hospitals)
  • Degree-level education in a relevant engineering discipline
  • Chartered Engineer status or pursuing it
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with varying size/complexity
  • Understanding of project commercial and technical risks
  • Experience with digital and parametric design
  • Knowledge of assessment, retrofit and alteration of existing structures
  • Knowledge of construction supervision, building investigation and structural testing
  • Forward-thinking on digital design innovation and smart design in a digitised construction arena
  • Excellent communication skills to explain complex concepts clearly
  • Ability to motivate and inspire confidence across geographical borders
  • Ability to work autonomously on technical aspects of the discipline
