Overview
In this role you will join the Engineering Department to help build a web-based Data Repository for HS2, enabling collection, management and sharing of monitoring data. You will contribute to a high-profile infrastructure project with long-term data legacy ambitions. You will work closely with researchers and HS2 stakeholders to shape technical solutions, data structures and robust, well-documented systems. The opportunity combines software development with impactful infrastructure research, using modern web technologies and data platforms.

Responsibilities
- Design, develop and document a web-based Data Repository, including back-end services, APIs and front-end applications for uploading and downloading monitoring data.
- Work with Python and/or JavaScript, FastAPI, SQL and time-series databases, Docker and GitHub.
- Collaborate with the research team and HS2 stakeholders to translate data requirements into technical solutions.
- Define common data structures and ensure the system is reliable, secure and well documented.
- Deliver project milestones in line with the agreed plan.
Key requirements
- Experience designing, developing and documenting web-based data repositories or similar systems.
- Proficiency with Python and/or JavaScript, FastAPI, SQL and time-series databases.
- Experience with containerization (Docker) and version control (GitHub).
- Ability to work with research teams and external stakeholders to translate data needs into technical solutions.
