Financial Controller

Overview

In this role you will take ownership of the day-to-day finance function for a fast-growing social commerce/ecommerce business. You will strengthen controls, improve reporting, and provide commercial insight to support the next growth phase. Working directly with the founders, you’ll build the finance function, manage forecasting, and advise on strategic decisions. This is a hands-on opportunity to shape finance processes in a dynamic, entrepreneurial environment.

Responsibilities

• Own monthly management accounts and timely reporting
• Produce clear financial analysis and performance commentary for founders and leadership
• Lead annual budgeting and rolling forecast process
• Manage cash flow, working capital and short-term funding
• Develop reporting on revenue, profitability, marketing spend and costs
• Ensure correct recognition of revenue, commissions and performance income
• Provide financial challenge for new client/campaign/investment decisions
• Establish controls on client spend, supplier payments and approvals
• Oversee accounts payable/receivable, credit control, banking and payroll
• Manage VAT, statutory accounts, corporation tax and annual audit
• Collaborate with external accountants, auditors and tax advisers
• Improve finance systems, MI and reporting as the business grows
• Recruit, manage and develop finance team members when required
• Support founders with commercial modelling, strategic planning and ad hoc projects

Key requirements

• ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified
• Experience as Financial Controller, Finance Manager or senior accountant in a fast-growing SME
• Experience in marketing agency/ecommerce/technology or fast-paced service-led business (advantageous)
• Strong management accounting, budgeting, forecasting and cash flow skills
• Commercially minded with ability to understand client/campaign profitability
• Comfortable with founders and senior stakeholders
• Ability to introduce controls without unnecessary complexity
• Hands-on with systems and process improvements in evolving business
• Confident in financial modelling and advanced Excel
