Project Engineer

Overview

As a Project Engineer, you will lead small-to-medium capital projects from feasibility through start-up, ensuring safety, quality, and regulatory compliance. You will work with cross-functional teams to coordinate design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and validation of new equipment. You drive planning, risk management, and execution to meet business requirements while maintaining site standards. This role offers hands-on design and field delivery with a strong safety and quality focus and a clear impact on plant performance.

Responsibilities

• Manage small projects from feasibility through start-up, including design, construction, commissioning
• Provide technical expertise for mechanical scope: design docs, procurement support, installation supervision, final inspection, commissioning and validation
• Develop project scopes, cost estimates, schedules and execution plans; support larger capital projects
• Coordinate contractors, subcontractors and suppliers to meet schedules; monitor progress and adapt plans
• Lead design reviews for safety, constructability, operability, and maintainability
• Prepare scopes of work, RFQs, and evaluate supplier bids; provide supplier recommendations
• Manage mechanical construction scope, issue work permits, supervise installation, conduct safety briefings
• Ensure compliance with IEC and OSHA, maintain documentation, promote safe, quality workmanship
• Develop commissioning checklists and oversee start-up checks and post-start-up issue resolution
• Maintain coordination with Operations, Safety, and Quality stakeholders to meet regulatory and business requirements

Key requirements

• Extensive on-site engineering experience in chemical or process-manufacturing environments
• Strong knowledge of mechanical construction, installation, commissioning, and start-up
• Ability to manage projects from feasibility to delivery
• Proficiency in reading mechanical drawings with AutoCAD (GAs, isometrics, P&IDs, 3D models)
• Develop project scopes, cost estimates, bid packages, and supplier evaluations
• Experience supervising contractors and managing construction safety and quality
• Knowledge of safety regulations, engineering standards, and permit-to-work requirements
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office; strong planning and communication skills
• Ability to collaborate across site and external resources; self-driven under pressure
• Flexibility for occasional hours beyond 40 per week
