Overview

As Senior Motor Control Engineer, you design, develop, and test advanced motor control algorithms for PMAC, IPM, Induction, SynRM, and SRM. You build dynamic models in MATLAB/Simulink and related tools, validate performance, and support cross-functional teams to meet safety and quality standards. You drive novel algorithms and real-time embedded software work, contributing to traction-drive applications. This role blends research, validation, and practical implementation to advance Turntide’s sustainable energy mission.

Responsibilities

  • Design, development and testing of motor control algorithms for PMAC (including IPM), Induction, SynRM, and SRM, plus vehicle control schemes
  • Develop dynamic system simulation models using MATLAB/Simulink, Simscape, and related tools; model motor, inverter, and system performance to target specs; create testing procedures
  • Research and develop high-performance motor control algorithms; conduct motor characterization and controller sign-off
  • Provide technical support to applications, validation, software, and sales; review requirements and specify design/test needs; document architectures and high-level designs; produce user guides and white papers
  • Develop software modules in C and Python; ensure adherence to quality and safety procedures; translate specifications into software
  • Ensure safe work practices and compliance with 5S; communicate findings, issues, and project status to internal customers

Key requirements

  • BSc (Hons) in Electrical and Electronic Engineering or equivalent, 2.1 or higher
  • Extensive knowledge of core motor types used in traction drive applications
  • Proficiency in vector control and modulation for VSIs; strong physics understanding of motor drives and vehicle applications
  • Basic understanding of power electronics and electrical laws
  • Extensive experience with MATLAB/Simulink and code generation tools; familiarity with MAB Modelling Guidelines
  • Experience with real-time embedded software development (C/C++), debugging on real-time systems
  • Experience with laboratory test equipment and dynamometers; experience in high voltage labs
  • Troubleshooting, problem-solving, and strong communication skills; willingness to travel within the UK and abroad
