Underwriter – Property & Commercial Combined

Overview

As an Underwriter in our Leeds Property & Commercial Combined team, you assess risks, evaluate applications, and tailor coverage. You’ll collaborate with brokers and clients to align solutions with needs, and advance the department’s standards and strategy. This hybrid role supports your underwriting career within a supportive, people-focused culture. You help shape risk treatment while upholding regulatory and underwriting standards.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite risks in line with the Business Plan and personal authority
• Build and maintain relationships with customers, brokers and partners to maximise influence
• Shape and develop strategy, knowledge and best practice using your expertise
• Promote the department, division and company to maximise brand leverage
• Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements
• Adhere to underwriting standards to minimise risk and improve efficiency
• Stay informed on market dynamics to operate effectively and appropriately

Key requirements

• Experience in Property and Commercial Combined underwriting
• Understanding of key profit drivers in commercial insurance
• Knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements
• Excellent organizational, prioritisation and interpersonal skills
• Strong negotiating skills and innovative underwriting approach
• Experience with risk profiling and pricing tools and loss models
