In this Principal Safety and Reliability Engineer role, you will lead safety design and reliability activities to meet project and regulatory requirements within the aerospace domain. You will influence system design, guide a cross-functional team, and ensure rigorous safety outcomes for mission-critical solutions. You’ll engage with customers and stakeholders to validate safety approaches and drive robust design decisions. This is a pivotal role at Ultra PCS, contributing to safe operation of aircraft and unmanned platforms while advancing aerospace safety standards.

Responsibilities
- Serve as a technical arbiter within Safety Design Group and lead safety and reliability planning with minimal supervision
- Influence system design and decompose safety and reliability requirements across the project
- Act as an active member of the development team, providing guidance and direction in real time
- Define and communicate design rigour requirements and how they apply to team members
- Make informed decisions that may alter project direction based on experience
- Act as safety and reliability focal point, coordinating with Lead Engineer on feasible timelines
- Collaborate with customers to validate safety and reliability approaches
- Highlight concerns early and present evidence to support design changes
- Present designs at reviews autonomously
- Support Bids and Proposals as required by the functional lead
- Use experience to perform safety and reliability impact analysis on design decisions
- Validate customer safety and reliability requirements against applicable standards and escalate discrepancies
Key requirements
- Extensive aerospace safety and reliability experience
- Ability to assess and communicate technical risk clearly to customers and teams
- Capability to oversee and approve other safety and reliability engineers’ work
- Conversant with aerospace safety design/assessment (FMEA, FTA)
- Familiarity with aerospace safety/certification requirements and SAE ARP4761/4754
- Knowledge of DO-160, DO-178, DO-254
- Familiarity with MIL-HDBK-217 reliability calculations
- Understanding of aerospace electronics manufacturing techniques
- Willingness to participate in product investigations following aircraft incidents
