Legal Negotiator – Assistant Vice President

Overview

In this role you will support Citi Belfast Markets’ Legal Contract Management Team, handling master agreements across commodities activities. You will draft, review and negotiate contracts, coordinate with clients and internal counsel, and ensure regulatory compliance. You’ll translate in-depth product knowledge into clear documentation and guidance for businesses, with opportunities to influence process improvements and regulatory initiatives. This role offers exposure to a global commodities practice, collaborative leadership, and long-term growth.

Responsibilities

• Review, draft, and negotiate contracts and related documents for Citi businesses
• Engage with clients and internal/external counsel during negotiations
• Coordinate with first/second line teams and senior attorneys as needed
• Respond to queries with in-depth area knowledge and escalate where appropriate
• Proactively contact unresponsive customers and maintain negotiation records
• Monitor regulatory developments and ensure compliance with requirements
• Identify opportunities for regulatory implementation projects and process improvements
• Advise Risk and business partners on documentation needs by product and jurisdiction

Key requirements

• Relevant industry experience; preferably in-house legal role within financial services
• Proven contract negotiation experience in a large institutional setting
• Track record of completing complex documentation under tight deadlines
• Strong organization, attention to detail, and ability to manage complex documents
• Excellent interpersonal and project management skills; effective with senior management
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook)
• Knowledge of legal customs and practices; understanding of financial services industry
