Overview

As Forward Deployed Legal Engineer, you will translate legal needs into AI-enabled workflows for law firm clients, bridging legal expertise and technology. You’ll design practical process improvements, prototypes, and agent-based solutions, working with cross-functional teams to ensure adoption and measurable value. You operate at the intersection of law, AI, and change enablement, shaping client-ready workflows grounded in trusted content. Responsibilities

  • Understand law firm workflows and pain points to design process improvements and AI-enabled solutions
  • Identify, prioritize, and document legal AI use cases
  • Create and refine LLM-based workflows, AI agents, prompts, and evaluation criteria
  • Work with LLMs, agent frameworks, retrieval patterns, and legal workflow context to build prototypes
  • Define requirements, data inputs, integrations, and workflow logic in collaboration with technical resources
  • Prototype using AI, automation, and no-code/low-code tools and gather user feedback
  • Map current and future-state workflows; recommend process changes for practical AI adoption
  • Coordinate with Data Modernization, Document Management, Knowledge Advisory, and Change Enablement to ground AI agents in content and system realities
  • Collaborate with lawyers and knowledge professionals to surface true problems and ensure legal relevance
  • Establish evaluation criteria and quality benchmarks for legal contexts (accuracy, defensibility, explainability)
  • Track adoption, usage, and value realization metrics linked to client outcomes
  • Align AI agents with secure data foundations, confidentiality, and governance requirements
  • Document data flows and decisions to support security reviews and risk management
  • Capture repeatable patterns into templates, playbooks, and enablement materials
  • Contribute to proposals, SOWs, and client presentations with practical AI-enabled approaches
  • Stay current on legal industry trends and evolving legal tech best practices
  • Translate agentic workflows into adoption plans and role-based enablement
  • Support business development by demonstrating measurable client value

Key requirements

  • Law degree strongly preferred with experience in legal environments or operations
  • Hands-on experience creating AI agents and working with modern large language models (prompting, retrieval-augmented generation, evaluation, workflow orchestration)
  • Ability to collaborate with AI Enablement, Data Modernization, Document Management, Knowledge Advisory, and Change Enablement teams
  • Experience improving legal or professional services processes via workflow analysis, requirements gathering, or operational redesign
  • Comfort working directly with lawyers and non-technical users to test concepts and drive adoption
  • Understanding of law firm culture, legal workflows, and adoption pressures
  • Strong data security, confidentiality, and privacy awareness for sensitive information
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, with ability to translate technical and legal audiences
  • Practical improvement mindset; comfortable with ambiguity and action-oriented
  • Knowledge of governance, data residency, retention, and access-control requirements
  • Ability to move concepts from AI experimentation to actionable, measurable workflows
