Overview
As Legal Counsel, you will support UK Specialty activities within Munich Re Specialty – Global Markets, acting as a trusted advisor on cross‑disciplinary legal topics. You will counsel on (re)insurance law, regulatory matters, wordings and contracts, and assist with day‑to‑day legal queries. You will lead strategic legal projects, provide training and templates, and help enhance processes and knowledge sharing across the business. This hybrid role in London or Manchester places you at the heart of cross‑border insurance with a focus on responsible risk management and business enablement.

Responsibilities
- Advise on (re)insurance law issues including wordings, delegation and distribution contracts
- Advise commercial and product teams on wordings and governance processes, including regulatory considerations for new products/emerging areas
- Advise in contentious matters including non-claims litigation and investigations
- Advise and assist compliance team on complex regulatory matters and sanctions matters
- Provide legal support to MRS-GM’s distribution channels including international offices and Lloyd’s Europe
- Collaborate with UK-based legal teams within the Munich group and align with group policies
- Advise on commercial and corporate contract issues including intra-group and third-party service contracts
- Lead strategic legal projects with stakeholder engagement across teams
- Provide training, develop template contracts and share knowledge across the business or other legal functions
- Identify significant legal exposures, provide updates and manage external counsel as needed
- Contribute to conducting good conduct and improving processes for consistent, efficient legal advice (including AI considerations)
Key requirements
- Qualified lawyer with 5–6 years PQE in insurance (inhouse experience welcome)
- Strong background in insurance and regulatory law; comprehensive UK insurance industry and Lloyd’s knowledge
- Education: minimum 2:1 undergraduate degree; conversion course with commendation
- English or common law jurisdiction qualified lawyer; additional qualifications advantageous
- Strong research, drafting and negotiation skills; ability to deliver crisp analysis in a fast-paced environment
