Senior or Principal Civil Engineer – Rivers & Coastal

Overview

In this role you will lead design and delivery of river, coastal, and flood risk projects within Stantec’s River and Coastal Team. You will collaborate with clients, regulators and multi-disciplinary teams to transform concepts into plan-ready designs that protect communities and support sustainable development. You’ll work across the project lifecycle, mentor junior engineers, and help grow the team, all while advancing meaningful infrastructure outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Prepare drainage strategies, flood risk management, river engineering and river restoration schemes
• Perform calculations and reports for planning and design stages
• Create plans and drawings from concept to construction
• Design earthworks, river structures, and drainage schemes with specifications
• Ensure high-quality design delivery through QA checks
• Engage with Environment Agency and other stakeholders for approvals
• Liaise with clients, third parties, and multi-disciplinary teams on project aspects
• Support construction phase with site queries and inspections
• Opportunity to mentor junior engineers and potentially manage staff
• Project management responsibilities with available training

Key requirements

• Civil Engineering degree or equivalent
• Chartered professional status, or close to application
• Experience in Infrastructure or Environmental Design
• Experience producing Flood Risk Assessments and SuDS design
• Knowledge of relevant standards and environmental solutions
• Experience collaborating with other disciplines and stakeholders
• Ability to represent employer in client-facing roles
• Ability to work independently
