Principal Process Engineer – Clean Water

Overview

As a Principal Process Engineer, lead clean water process design and technical delivery across treatment, resource, and infrastructure projects. You will shape robust, sustainable solutions in collaboration with a national multi-disciplinary team. Drive concept-to-implementation delivery, optimise existing assets, and contribute to strategic water resource initiatives. This role offers influence over client outcomes, mentoring of engineers, and opportunities to advance water security and resilience across the UK.

Responsibilities

• Lead development and delivery of clean water process engineering solutions across treatment, water resource and infrastructure projects
• Develop and review process designs, calculations, mass balances, hydraulic assessments, and technical specifications
• Provide technical leadership to ensure robust, practical, and client-aligned solutions
• Support strategic water resource projects including transfer, storage, recycling and long-term resilience
• Contribute to optimisation of existing treatment assets through investigations and site testing
• Collaborate with civil, mechanical, electrical, environmental and hydraulic specialists to deliver integrated solutions
• Build relationships with clients and contribute to bids, framework opportunities and business plans
• Mentor and support engineers within the Process Engineering team

Key requirements

• Significant experience in clean water or wastewater process engineering
• Strong technical experience across clean water treatment processes, design and/or optimization
• Experience developing and reviewing process calculations, mass balances, hydraulic assessments
• Proven ability to provide technical leadership on multidisciplinary projects
• Understanding of UK water industry challenges, standards and best practices
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
• Experience mentoring and developing engineers
