Overview

In this role you guide and deliver innovation incentive engagements, focusing on R&D tax relief and Patent Box claims for a diverse client base. You lead cross-functional engagement teams, coordinate technical and financial work, and advise clients on complex legislation. You’ll manage projects end-to-end, coach junior staff, and maintain strong relationships with HMRC and clients. This is an opportunity to shape advisory services within a top-tier firm and help clients maximise eligible incentives.

Responsibilities

  • Lead engagement teams to develop claim methodologies and prepare R&D tax relief and Patent Box submissions to HMRC.
  • Own your work and your team’s deliverables, including client meetings with finance stakeholders.
  • Chair and support technical specialists in meetings with senior client stakeholders.
  • Manage technical and financial elements of client deliverables and ensure accurate quantification of claims.
  • Oversee cross-stream client projects (tax and technical) and resource coordination.
  • Model best-practice in client relationships, technical quality, and service delivery.
  • Lead projects, advising on applying complex legislation to real-life scenarios.
  • Coach and develop junior staff and manage workloads with delegation.
  • Liaise with HMRC specialists to facilitate R&D & Patent Box claim agreements.
  • Establish and maintain strong client relationships and build internal networks within the firm.
  • Pursue business development opportunities, prepare proposals, and participate in pitches.

Key requirements

  • Strong finance, accounting and taxation background
  • Significant industry experience in finance with knowledge of R&D and/or Patent Box legislation
  • Ability to understand tax/costing concepts for R&D and Patent Box claim preparation
  • Capability to work in cross-disciplinary teams
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent communication and ability to explain complex concepts to diverse audiences
  • Ability to produce high-quality client-facing documentation and reports
  • Project management skills and workload management
  • Tax and accounting qualifications not essential but preferable (CTA/ACA/ACCA or equivalent)
