Overview
As Head of Strategic Asset Management, you lead the creation and delivery of the Asset Management Strategy for National Grid Electricity Transmission, aligning network needs, investment priorities and regulatory commitments. You will translate business strategy into asset priorities, drive governance and maturity of Asset Management frameworks, and influence long-term plans that support current performance and the Net Zero transition. This leadership role shapes investment decisions, regulatory submissions and cross-functional collaboration, delivering value for customers and stakeholders.

Responsibilities
- Define and evolve the Asset Management Strategy to align with corporate objectives and regulatory commitments
- Translate strategy into Asset Management priorities and investment decisions
- Develop and govern frameworks, policies and processes linking strategy with asset plans and delivery
- Champion Asset Management across the organisation through awareness, education and engagement
- Drive continuous improvement of the Asset Management System in line with best practices
- Shape long-term asset plans and investment strategies balancing risk, resilience, performance and whole-life value
- Develop robust business plans and investment cases with clear evidence of costs, benefits and customer value
- Collaborate with Finance, Regulation, Engineering, Operations, Network Planning and Digital teams for integrated decision-making
- Represent Asset Management in forums with regulators, auditors and stakeholders
- Lead and develop a high-performing team and promote accountability and collaboration
Key requirements
- Significant senior experience in Asset Management, strategic or investment leadership within a complex, ideally regulated environment
- Proven ability to develop and implement Asset Management Strategies or long-term planning frameworks
- Strong knowledge of asset management principles, risk, lifecycle planning and investment decision-making
- Experience leading major planning or regulatory submissions and engaging with senior stakeholders
- Ability to build compelling investment cases and communicate complex technical information to executives
- Experience working with regulators, auditors or assurance bodies at a senior level
- Strong commercial and financial awareness including affordability analysis and whole-life value assessment
- Track record of embedding Asset Management best practice across a business
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills to influence diverse audiences
- Ambitious leadership presence and ambassador for Asset Management
- Desirable: Chartered Engineer or Manager status; professional body membership; experience in electricity transmission or asset-intensive sectors
