Machine Control Engineer (Heavy Plant)

Overview

In this role you deploy and support on-site machine control installations using Trimble hardware, ensuring accurate calibration and fault resolution on earthmoving equipment. You will collaborate with the Installations Team Leader and customers to deliver reliable, calibrated systems that improve precision and productivity. The role combines field installation, calibration, and hands-on troubleshooting in a customer-centric environment. You’ll engage in training end-users and promoting technology adoption on machines.

Responsibilities

• Install SITECH/Trimble equipment across OEMs, dealers and customers (Dozer, Excavator, Grader, Paver, Compactor) with GCS900, CCS900, DPS900, Earthworks systems
• Provide on-site and remote maintenance, support calls, and troubleshooting for SITECH/Trimble equipment across OEMs and customers
• Calibrate/re-calibrate machine control equipment as part of installation, rental, or field support
• Assist Operations Manager to plan and deliver installations and meet customer requirements
• Document post-installation testing to ensure operational quality and records
• Provide operator training on system use and act as an ambassador for technology integration
• Support team with operational and training needs as requested
• Ensure all activity is well-documented and meets high standards
• Manage own time effectively and work both independently and in teams
• Maintain customer-centric urgency and strive for first-time fixes on time and to standard

Key requirements

• College or vocational qualification in Mechanical, Hydraulics or Electronic
• Proven ability to troubleshoot hydraulic and electrical issues on heavy equipment
• Familiarity with construction site operations and machine control systems
• IOSH/ RAMS and CSCS card (health & safety awareness)
• Experience with Arc welding (useful but not essential)
• Basic PC skills (Outlook, Word, Excel) and ability to research technical information via Trimble portfolio
• Experience with construction equipment or machine control technology preferred
• Understanding of field installation, calibration and service support processes and documentation
• Hands-on, customer-focused approach with ability to work remotely and travel for national coverage
