Overview

As a member of the Health and Social Care Real Estate practice, you will handle a broad spectrum of commercial property work for NHS and independent providers. You’ll collaborate across offices and disciplines to advise on estates strategy, development, acquisitions, disposals, leases and related regulatory considerations. The role offers high‑quality work, client contact, and clear progression paths within a collaborative, cross‑functional team. You will contribute to panels, client relationships and business development while developing sector expertise. This is an opportunity to shape health and social care property outcomes in a multidisciplinary firm with a strong pipeline.

Responsibilities

  • Advise on a varied caseload of commercial real estate matters across health and social care, including acquisitions, disposals, leases, licences, asset management, development and portfolio work.
  • Support senior lawyers on complex transactions, coordinating defined workstreams and delivering across the matter team.
  • Lead transactions with appropriate autonomy, acting as day‑to‑day client contact.
  • Develop understanding of client objectives and the public sector, regulatory, funding and operational environment to provide practical advice.
  • Navigate property arrangements with service delivery considerations, including continuity, estate strategy, occupation structures and operator covenants.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across construction, planning, litigation, portfolio management, corporate, procurement, finance and tax to provide integrated service.
  • Manage matters proactively with scope, priorities, timetables, budgets and reporting, escalating issues as needed.
  • Contribute to know‑how, precedents, training and improved processes; support business development and client care activities.
  • Support junior colleagues through collaboration, supervision and feedback.

Key requirements

  • Solicitor qualified in England and Wales; 1–3, 3–5 or 5+ years’ PQE depending on level
  • Relevant commercial real estate experience from private practice, in‑house or public sector
  • Experience with landlord and tenant matters, acquisitions/disposals, due diligence and reporting
  • Exposure to development, investment, portfolio projects or public‑sector estates is beneficial
  • Strong drafting, risk analysis and commercially pragmatic problem solving
  • Clear client communication, relationship building and ability to work collaboratively
