Overview
In this Quantity Surveyor role, you will manage commercial aspects across civil engineering and infrastructure projects within a Birmingham-based team. You’ll ensure cost control, contractual compliance and profitable outcomes through proactive collaboration with project managers, clients and suppliers. The position sits in a growing, family-owned principal contractor focused on rail and infrastructure programmes, offering clear career progression and development opportunities. You will shape commercial decisions on major projects and help maintain strong client relationships.

Responsibilities
- Manage the commercial aspects of multiple civil engineering and infrastructure projects
- Prepare, submit and agree interim valuations and payment applications
- Identify, price and negotiate variations and compensation events
- Develop and manage project budgets, cost plans and cash flow forecasts
- Monitor project costs, profitability and overall commercial performance
- Procure subcontractors and suppliers, analyse quotations and negotiate orders
- Manage subcontract agreements, valuations and final accounts
- Produce monthly Cost Value Reconciliation (CVR) reports
- Administer client and subcontractor final accounts
- Ensure compliance with NEC contract conditions
- Identify commercial risks and implement mitigation strategies
- Build strong relationships with clients, consultants and supply chain partners
- Support estimating and tendering activities when required
Key requirements
- Degree/HNC/HND in Quantity Surveying (or similar qualification) or experience equivalent
- Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor within civil engineering or infrastructure projects
- Sound understanding of NEC forms of contract
- Excellent commercial awareness, negotiation skills and financial management capabilities
- Strong communication, organisational and stakeholder management skills
