Contractors Responsible Engineer – Rail

Overview

In this role you will act as Civils CRE on UK rail projects, overseeing civil works and assuring quality across schemes such as rail stations, tram upgrades, and platform/trackside civils. You will work within the civil engineering team to review others’ work, ensuring high standards and alignment with project objectives. The position offers exposure to large-scale rail infrastructure and the chance to contribute to delivery across multiple rail sector initiatives. A Chartered, civils-focused background underpins your ability to lead complex CRE activities.

Responsibilities

• Act as Civils CRE on assigned projects
• Review and approve civil works completed by other engineers
• Ensure highest quality and compliance with project specifications
• Contribute to delivery across rail stations, tram upgrades, platform and trackside civils
• Coordinate with project team to maintain timelines and quality
• Support civil/structural design and construction activities
• Communicate effectively with stakeholders to manage expectations

Key requirements

• Must have prior CRE experience
• Chartered with a relevant institution
• Must have railway civils experience
• Must have a civil/structural background
• Experience with Network Rail would be beneficial
• Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workloads
• Good communication skills both written and verbal
• Eligible to live and work in the UK without visa restrictions
