Overview

As a Senior Product Design Engineer in our London Design Office, you drive end-to-end mechanical/electro-mechanical design for Shark Floorcare products, collaborating across US, UK, and China. You mentor peers, shape requirements, and deliver robust, manufacturable solutions with a focus on cost, quality, and performance. You will own designs from concept to prototyping and verification, advancing high‑voltage product initiatives with cross-functional teams. This role combines technical leadership with hands-on experimentation to push our disruptive innovation in home solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead technical challenges across the product development lifecycle, both independently and with teams
  • Mentor junior engineers and potentially progress to line management
  • Define user, design, and functional requirements and validate solutions through testing
  • Own end-to-end designs from conception through CAD, prototyping, and verification
  • Improve designs for cost efficiency, manufacturability, quality, and consumer value
  • Apply engineering and design standards to deliver manufacturable solutions
  • Leverage knowledge of high-volume manufacturing and materials to optimize designs
  • Collaborate with Product Development teams across US, UK, and China and with stakeholders

Key requirements

  • 5+ years in mechanical or electro-mechanical engineering
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems in high-voltage environments
  • Working knowledge of electromechanical systems including insulation, creepage/clearance, and thermal management
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks (preferred) or Creo
  • Extensive injection moulding experience; materials for high-voltage applications (PPS, PAGF)
  • Experience managing electrical safety risks (dielectric, hi-pot, arcing)
  • Experience with FMEA/DFMEA/HAZOP for high-voltage systems
  • Understanding of IP ratings, dielectric strength, thermal runaway, and partial discharge testing
  • Ability to design, build, and test mechanical prototypes; knowledge of thermal cycling, humidity, vibration, and impact testing
  • Proficiency with 2D drawings, assemblies, BOM management, and GD&T
