Overview
In this Lead Systems Engineer/Design Authority role, you will provide technical oversight across the EW training system solution, working with internal and supplier teams to ensure architecture meets customer and business needs. You’ll guide the engineering lifecycle, champion system integrity, and lead architecture activities to support certification and delivery. The role combines hands-on problem solving with leadership of cross-functional teams in a NATO JEWCS context. You will influence design decisions and trade-offs while partnering with customers and stakeholders to shape the deployed solution.

Responsibilities
- Provide technical oversight across the system and subsystems to ensure fit-for-purpose designs
- Lead the architecture team and document architecture throughout the project lifecycle
- Influence requirements to enable design decisions and trade-offs
- Support technical risk assessment, test planning, and verification for certification
- Act as technical interface between customer and Leonardo Engineering teams
- Mentor and develop junior Systems Engineers and support knowledge sharing
- Deputise for the Project Chief Engineer and represent the team at reviews
- Collaborate with project stakeholders including customers and end users
- Travel domestically and internationally to engage with customers and partners
Key requirements
- Degree (or equivalent experience) in a STEM subject and strong numerical/analytical design skills
- Strong understanding of systems and project lifecycles, baselines, and change control
- Experience influencing system design and integration of a major system
- Proven ability to manage stakeholders in high-pressure environments
- Experience passing Design Reviews and managing remedial actions with suppliers and Prime integration teams
- Security clearance considerations (BPSS, NSV) potentially required
