Overview

In this role you will design and optimize embedded software for next-generation wireless audio systems, collaborating with hardware and wireless engineers to deliver high-performance products. You’ll integrate and refine wireless protocols, RTOS platforms, and networking stacks to ensure reliability and scalability. This is a hands-on, cross-functional position in Edinburgh that blends firmware, protocol development, and system integration to shape Shure’s audio technology leadership. You will work in a fast-paced, agile environment with opportunities to mentor others and contribute to architectural decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimise embedded software interfacing with hardware, firmware, and wireless tech for performance and reliability
  • Integrate and refine wireless protocol stacks in embedded software
  • Analyze and evaluate digital wireless protocols (WiFi/Bluetooth/DECT/PWT) for pro-audio applications
  • Adapt industry standard wireless stacks into Shure products
  • Integrate RTOS (Linux/Open RTOS/VxWorks) into embedded firmware
  • Integrate and test networking protocols (Ethernet, AISG, USB, TCP/UDP, IP)
  • Debug and resolve embedded software issues in wireless environments
  • Collaborate with hardware and wireless engineers on system design and issue resolution
  • Support product development using wired and wireless protocols in an agile team
  • Contribute to architecture design using UML and established methods
  • Review design/code and mentor junior engineers

Key requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field
  • 6+ years’ experience in embedded systems development
  • Proven experience with wireless protocols (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Zigbee, or DECT)
  • Knowledge of Ethernet, TCP/IP networking
  • Proficiency in C++ and object-oriented design in embedded firmware
  • Ability to design modular, maintainable software architectures with clear interfaces
  • Experience with embedded operating systems and leveraging hardware capabilities
  • Strong analytical skills and sound engineering judgment
