Overview
In this role you lead process safety for LNG and onshore low carbon fuel projects, providing technical authority on hazard identification, risk assessment, and consequence evaluation to support risk-informed design. You drive consistent application of safety methodologies and ensure study outputs are robust and integrated into engineering decisions. You also contribute to environmental assessments as a supporting discipline to enable safe, compliant project delivery. This position offers impact across multidisciplinary teams in a mission-driven, safety-focused environment.
Responsibilities
- Define and maintain the Safety Engineering Basis including methodologies, standards, and acceptance criteria for process safety studies and risk management
- Lead and deliver process safety studies (HAZID, HAZOP, Fire and Explosion Analysis, QRA, ALARP) with robust outputs applied project-wide
- Guide consequence modelling for fire, explosion, and hazardous release scenarios to support decision-making
- Integrate process safety outcomes into engineering design, influencing plant layout, safeguards, and risk reduction strategies
- Develop Fire & Gas detection philosophies and detector mapping aligned with hazard scenarios
- Define fire protection requirements from a process safety perspective to mitigate major accident scenarios
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure consistent process safety application across design deliverables
- Support risk management activities with identification, assessment, and tracking of key process safety risks to resolution
- Provide technical guidance to promote consistency, quality, and continuous improvement in process safety delivery
- Contribute to environmental studies (GHG emissions, flaring and venting, energy efficiency) as part of project sustainability objectives
- Engage in client engagements, technical assurance reviews, and regulatory discussions as the process safety SME
Key requirements
- Degree in Engineering or equivalent
- Proven capability in leading process safety studies (HAZID, HAZOP, QRA)
- Strong understanding of fire/explosion hazards, dispersion analysis, and quantitative risk assessment
- Experience with consequence and risk modelling software (e.g., PHAST, FLACS) is preferred
- Experience integrating process safety into engineering design and influencing technical decisions
- Exposure to environmental assessments (emissions, flaring, venting, energy efficiency)
- Familiarity with international codes, standards, and regulatory frameworks for LNG and low carbon fuels
- Strong communication, coordination, and influencing skills across multidisciplinary teams
- Strong communication and influencing abilities
- Cross-functional collaboration
- Decision-making and stakeholder engagement
