Overview
In this role you will drive process improvements across R&D and manufacturing, using Lean Six Sigma, SPC and robust trial design to cut waste and boost productivity. You’ll run and assess trials for new products, processes and technologies, and translate data into actionable recommendations. You’ll work across Engineering, Operations, Quality and Supply Chain to raise quality, efficiency and capacity, while supporting tech adoption and new equipment introductions. This is a fast-paced, cross-functional role that shapes performance at scale.
Responsibilities
- Plan, run and evaluate process trials for new products, processes, machinery and technology using data to assess performance and identify improvements
- Apply root cause analysis tools (5 Whys, Fishbone) and data reviews to identify true causes of inefficiencies and variation
- Develop and implement practical optimisation plans to improve quality, efficiency, capacity, cost and consistency
- Establish and maintain KPIs and SPC measures to track process capability and sustain improvements
- Identify and reduce waste across seven categories (overproduction, waiting, transport, extra processing, inventory, motion, defects)
- Provide process input for selection, purchase and implementation of new equipment to support productivity and quality
- Collaborate with Engineering, Operations, Quality, Procurement, Supply Chain and R&D to align plans and share best practices
- Contribute technical input and trial data to wider productivity programmes and strategic initiatives
Key requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Food Science, Manufacturing or related technical discipline
- Experience in process engineering, process improvement or technical trials in manufacturing or R&D
- Strong knowledge of Lean Six Sigma, SPC, root cause analysis and structured problem-solving tools
- Strong analytical and data interpretation skills with the ability to translate trial outcomes into recommendations
- Experience supporting process optimisation, waste reduction and productivity improvement initiatives
- Ability to work cross-functionally and influence stakeholders with evidence-based technical input
