Overview
As Principal Product Safety Engineer, you will embed in key programme teams to lead hazard identification, risk analysis, and safety-case development, ensuring hazards are eliminated or reduced to ALARP. You’ll build robust safety arguments grounded in evidence and collaborate with subsystem Technical Authorities. This role supports life-cycle safety through authoritative hazard management and safety reviews. You will mentor junior safety engineers and influence final design solutions in a defence engineering environment.

Responsibilities
- Lead product safety activities for allocated equipment areas and major subsystems, building safety arguments with evidence and artifacts
- Support hazard logs, risk management, and mitigation strategies; ensure quality of Hazard Log submissions
- Organise and lead HAZIDs and safety review meetings, provide mentorship and review junior engineers’ work
- Collaborate with Technical Authorities to evaluate complex technologies and influence design integrity
Key requirements
- Proven experience in Product Safety Management processes and techniques
- Experience across multiple phases of the Life Cycle Management (LCM) framework
- Familiarity with Def Stan 00-056 / 00-055, DSA-02, JSP430, MIL-STD-882E, ANEP77, or BS EN 61508
