Overview
In this role you will lead a team of procurement professionals and manage high-value subcontract portfolios across multiple defence programmes. You will guide procurement activities through the full contract lifecycle, ensure on-time delivery, cost control and quality, and negotiate key terms with critical suppliers. You will provide commercial guidance to project and engineering stakeholders and drive supplier performance and risk management. You will build strategic supplier relationships and influence senior stakeholders to support national security-focused programmes. Responsibilities
- Lead and develop a procurement team delivering activities across multiple programmes
- Manage high-value supplier contracts and subcontract arrangements through full lifecycle
- Ensure procurement activities meet time, budget and quality objectives
- Negotiate contracts and commercial terms with key suppliers/subcontractors
- Provide commercial guidance to project, engineering and technical stakeholders
- Drive supplier performance, risk management and continuous improvement
- Ensure governance and procurement procedures compliance
- Support tendering, supplier selection and new business opportunities
- Lead negotiations to protect business interests and achieve mutually beneficial outcomes
- Identify and mitigate supply chain risks while maximizing opportunities
- Build strong relationships with suppliers, customers and senior stakeholders
- Support delivery of complex defence projects through subcontract management
Key requirements
- Proven procurement/subcontract management experience
- Experience leading or mentoring procurement professionals
- Strong contract negotiation skills including drafting and review of terms
- Experience managing supplier relationships and complex subcontract arrangements
- Understanding of procurement governance, compliance and due diligence
- Experience supporting tendering and competitive sourcing
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills at senior levels
- Strong commercial awareness balancing risk, cost, quality and delivery
- Highly organized with attention to detail and procedural compliance
- Experience in defence, aerospace, engineering, manufacturing or regulated sectors advantageous
