HSE Manager – Defence Maritime, SC Cleared

Overview

In this role you will develop and apply local OHSE policy aligned with legislation, corporate policy, and Naval Base requirements. You will review and verify contractor OHSE arrangements, ensure competence and induction under MOD standards, and monitor safety across refurbishment activities. You will provide expert OHSE advice, support fire risk and incident management, and drive a positive safety culture through coordination of internal and contractor initiatives. This position offers hands-on safeguarding for complex, regulated refurbishments and the chance to influence safety across projects.

Responsibilities

• Develop and apply local OHSE policy aligned with regulatory and Naval Base requirements
• Review refurbishment works OHSE arrangements to ensure BASO and MOD compliance
• Verify contractor competence and induction under MOD 4Cs requirements
• Monitor temporary works, welfare, and exposure to noise, vibration, dust, fumes
• Verify PUWER compliance arrangements for contractors
• Manage interface risks between SBO activities, refurbishment works and other site activities to ensure ALARP
• Perform 1st Line of Defence assurance, issue reports, track actions to completion
• Provide competent OHSE guidance on safe systems of work, risk assessment, transport and pedestrian management, asbestos/legionella management, MHE and warehousing, psychological health, sustainability, waste, pollution control
• Support Fire Risk Assessment and Fire Orders including drills and testing
• Deliver OHSE SME support to committees and boards on compliance status, incident management, trends, and audits
• Promote a positive OHSE culture by coordinating local, corporate, and contractor initiatives
