Senior Civil Infrastructure Engineer (Development)

Overview

In this Senior Engineer role, you’ll support the regional Development Team in Cambridge, delivering civil engineering design for development infrastructure. You’ll help prepare masterplans, concept studies, planning submissions, and construction drawings across multi-disciplinary projects. You will engage with clients and stakeholders, guiding project delivery to budget, schedule, and technical standards. The role offers exposure to high-profile schemes and the chance to shape sustainable urban development within a collaborative, performance-driven team. Responsibilities

• Deliver concept studies and strategies with hands-on design leading to planning and construction documentation
• Produce infrastructure designs, masterplans, site appraisals, and technical reports across multiple projects
• Engage with clients, stakeholders, and internal/external design teams to secure approvals and coordinate design
• Manage project delivery to budget, programme, and technical/legal requirements
• Provide guidance and supervision to junior/ambient technical staff
• Contribute to high-profile client engagement and multi-disciplinary project management
• Coordinate with highway, water, and utilities authorities for approvals and agreements

Key requirements

• Knowledge of highway design, drainage strategy, flood risk management, utilities, and planning within development projects
• Understanding of hydraulics, hydrology, geotechnics, and building structures; familiarity with design stages
• Ability to produce masterplans, site appraisals, technical reports, design calculations, and construction drawings
• Experience with design codes (Water UK Sewerage Sector Guidance, Design Manual for Roads & Bridges, Manual for Streets, Local Authority Design Guidance) and contract documentation
• Awareness of climate change and sustainability guidance
• Proficiency with InfoDrainage, Civils 3D and/or PDS; ability to direct and review downstream software usage
• Experience liaising with clients, co-professionals, and authorities to obtain approvals and agreements
• Knowledge of legal processes, design consent, adoption, and contracts for sewers, SuDS, highways, and utilities
• Understanding of financial and contractual aspects of planning, bidding, and delivering projects
• Postgraduate (or equivalent) experience; nearing Chartership or equivalent commercial responsibility
