Overview
As Assistant Environmental Sustainability Manager on the Lower Thames Crossing project, you help drive environmental performance and regulatory compliance. You will support the Environmental Sustainability Manager to align with DCO requirements, EMS governance, and environmental risk management. You’ll collaborate with stakeholders, regulators, and the client to deliver sustainable solutions. This role offers exposure to a landmark infrastructure program and the chance to shape environmental practices on a major project.

Responsibilities
- Communicate Development Consent Order (DCO) environmental requirements to teams and conduct compliance inspections
- Engage with statutory environmental bodies and consultees
- Provide environmental training to staff
- Produce Environmental Management Plans (EMPs) and secure approval from client and stakeholders
- Develop and coordinate EMS documentation at project/contract level
- Identify key environmental risks, opportunities, and KPIs
- Advise on legal consents, licenses, and exemptions while spotting sustainability innovations and cost-saving opportunities
Key requirements
- Degree level in appropriate Environmental or relevant discipline or equivalent (e.g. NVQ)
- Experience of the Development Consent Order process
- Analytical skills with attention to detail to identify environmental risks and mitigation measures
- Extensive construction industry experience or relevant environmental experience in a similar sector
- Minimum Practitioner Membership with IEMA or similar professional membership
