Overview
As the site Environmental Specialist, you will lead environmental compliance and drive EHS improvement across a flagship site. You will collaborate with engineering and leadership to reduce risk, foster a proactive EHS culture, and act as deputy to the EHS Director when needed. The role covers environmental sustainability performance, audits, and construction safety governance, with exposure to diverse projects in renewables, energy transition, and process industries. This is a hands-on, site-based position that combines strategic oversight with practical field delivery.

Responsibilities
- Lead the site Environmental compliance programme and ensure alignment with UK/EU legislation and client standards
- Develop and monitor Environmental management system elements, targets, and continuous improvement actions
- Build Environmental capability across engineering and operations through risk assessments, training, and coaching
- Coordinate with regional/global Environmental Sustainability experts and regulators (e.g., Environment Agency)
- Provide technical Environmental support on Net Zero Carbon, Energy, Water, Wastewater, and Waste regulations
- Oversee EHS management for construction and demolition projects, including Contractor Safety standards, Permit to Work, RAMS
- Lead PCI packs, Construction Safety Plans, and Construction Phase Plans; liaise with local councils on planning permissions
- Provide wider EHS leadership for audits, emergency planning, incident investigation, and improvement programmes
- Maintain relationships with regulators, auditing functions, and site leadership; support regulatory inspections
- Deputise for the EHS Director and SMEs to ensure ongoing EHS policy implementation and crisis management
Key requirements
- NEBOSH Certificate or equivalent in Construction Safety or Environmental Management
- Experience with multiple engineering disciplines in a manufacturing/industrial environment
- Experience managing and delivering technical or operational projects
- Excellent communication across all levels
- Experience in pharmaceutical or regulated manufacturing environments
- Dangerous Goods knowledge (DGSA) and familiarity with pharma/FMCG processes
- Chartered status in a relevant Engineering, Scientific or Technical discipline
- Ability to coach and inspire site front line leaders, engineers, and technicians in risk identification and robust solutions
