Associate Fire Engineer

Overview

In this role you will lead delivery of performance-based fire strategies for complex buildings, guiding design through concept to handover. You will oversee fire modelling work and ensure compliance with standards, acting as Technical Lead on bids and multi-disciplinary schemes. You’ll mentor engineers and champion fire-safety integration across disciplines, supporting growth of Stantec’s Fire Engineering capability. This is a client-facing, impact-driven position within a collaborative buildings team.

Responsibilities

• Lead delivery of performance-based and code-compliant fire strategies across healthcare, education, commercial, residential, life sciences, and regeneration projects
• Oversee fire and smoke modelling (CFD), evacuation modelling, and smoke control strategies with internal specialists
• Act as Technical Lead on major bids and complex multi-disciplinary schemes
• Lead client meetings, technical workshops, and regulatory consultations
• Promote fire-safety integration across Architecture, MEP, Structural, Transport, Environmental and Project Management teams
• Support business growth through fee proposals, bids, and strategic pursuits
• Mentor Fire Engineers and support pathway to IFE/CEng status, promoting technical excellence and knowledge sharing
• Lead internal initiatives and contribute to thought leadership within Stantec’s Fire Engineering community

Key requirements

• Extensive experience producing fire strategies for complex buildings
• Proficient in FDS, PyroSim, Pathfinder or similar modelling tools
• Strong communication skills for presenting technical matters to clients
• Experience in a consultancy environment working on multidisciplinary projects
