Overview

In this role you will shape Ireland’s transport future by leading design packages for major roads, public transport, and greenways. You’ll work within AECOM’s large highways team to deliver projects across Ireland and the UK, with a clear path toward Chartered Engineer status. You’ll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, guide clients through approvals, and mentor apprentices, contributing to high-quality, safe transport solutions. This is a growth-focused role in a flexible, hybrid environment with strong development support.

Responsibilities

  • Manage design packages from concept to construction for highways, bus infrastructure, and greenways
  • Apply UK/Irish design standards (DMRB, Cycle by Design, DMURS, Cycle Design Manual) to safety-focused transport solutions
  • Deliver high-quality deliverables within time and budget constraints
  • Collaborate within multidisciplinary teams including drainage, structures, and environmental specialists
  • Engage with clients, local authorities, and stakeholders through statutory approvals
  • Mentor apprentices and contribute to a culture of growth and learning
  • Support project commercial management and work-winning processes
  • Contribute to flexible hybrid working and project delivery across Ireland and UK

Key requirements

  • Bachelor/Master in Civil Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Progress toward Chartership
  • Post-graduate experience in civil engineering, highways, public transport, or greenways
  • Knowledge of DMRB, DMURS, LTN 1/20, LTN 1/24, NTA Cycle Design Manual
  • Experience with NEC/Public Works contracts and related specifications (MCHW/MCRW)
  • Experience delivering packages in teams of varying sizes
  • Understanding of statutory planning and design approvals in UK/Ireland
