Overview
As a Principal or Senior Principal Consultant in Stantec’s Nuclear team, you will lead technically complex environmental and radioactive waste projects across the UK and beyond. You’ll shape waste strategies, safety cases and regulatory approaches for new build, decommissioning and waste management across the nuclear lifecycle. The role combines senior technical leadership with business development to grow the Nuclear practice. You will mentor teams, drive process improvements, and help clients navigate regulatory and environmental challenges. Responsibilities
- Lead delivery of complex environmental and radioactive waste projects for nuclear clients
- Develop waste management strategies, environmental safety cases and permitting strategies
- Navigate regulatory compliance and engage with regulators and stakeholders
- Drive business development: identify opportunities, build client relationships, lead bids and prepare technical proposals
- Mentor and develop junior staff, build team capability and support high-performing consultancy delivery
- Contribute to continuous improvement of internal processes, standards, and procedures
- Support decommissioning and new build programmes through lifecycle waste management
Key requirements
- Significant experience in environmental, radioactive waste management, or decommissioning in the nuclear sector
- Degree in science, engineering, or environmental field; postgraduate qualifications desirable
- Experience delivering consultancy to nuclear licensed sites
- Strong knowledge of environmental permitting, radioactive waste management, safety cases, regulatory compliance
- Experience engaging with regulators, stakeholders and clients on complex projects
- Proven business development experience: identifying opportunities, leading bids, tender prep, client management
- Strong project management: planning, cost control, governance, delivery assurance
- Experience leading and developing high-performing teams
- Excellent technical report writing and communication skills
- Commercial awareness and risk management in consultancy
- Eligibility for UK Security Clearance (BPSS minimum)
