Overview

As Principal Mechanical Engineer at Stantec, you will lead the mechanical design across water and wastewater projects, from feasibility to commissioning. You’ll guide technical delivery within a cross‑functional team and mentor engineers to build capability. The role focuses on delivering innovative, compliant solutions that improve asset resilience and environmental performance. Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical design across water and wastewater treatment works, pumping stations and related infrastructure
  • Deliver projects from feasibility through detailed design, construction support and commissioning
  • Produce and review calculations, specifications, reports and engineering documentation
  • Provide technical leadership across multidisciplinary teams to ensure quality and consistency
  • Mentor and develop engineers and support their technical growth
  • Collaborate with clients, PMs, contractors and supply chain partners to achieve outcomes
  • Contribute to business development, framework delivery and continuous improvement initiatives

Key requirements

  • Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering
  • Chartered or Incorporated Engineer (CEng/IEng) or actively pursuing
  • Strong experience delivering detailed mechanical design in the UK water sector
  • Experience leading technical delivery across multidisciplinary projects
  • Excellent understanding of water and wastewater treatment processes and related systems
  • Experience mentoring engineers and developing technical capability
  • Strong client-facing, communication and stakeholder management skills
