Overview
In this role you design protection and control solutions for extra‑high voltage substations (AIS and GIS) across 11kV–400kV, contributing to smart grid initiatives. You will produce detailed protection drawings, integrate SCADA interfaces, and support project delivery from site visits to documentation. You’ll work with cross‑functional teams to ensure compliant, cost‑effective designs while advancing a future‑oriented protection strategy. This is a hands‑on role at multiple UK offices with opportunities to shape high‑impact electrical infrastructure.

Responsibilities
- Design protection and control schemes for EHV substations (AIS & GIS) from 11kV to 132kV
- Develop protection solutions aligned with future smart grid needs
- Integrate protection with SCADA systems for cost‑effective designs
- Create all related engineering calculations and documentation
- Prepare equipment specifications and conduct site visits for project requirements
- Attend site meetings and provide ongoing design support during construction
- Review supplier and client designs for technical compliance with standards and policies
Key requirements
- HNC Electrical Engineering
- Proven experience in protection and control scheme design
- Knowledge of electrical networks and engineering standards
- Ability to interpret technical design documentation
- Experience with substation control equipment from major suppliers (ABB/Hitachi/Siemens/GE)
- Experience with IEC 61850 and IEC 60870 protocols
