As Principal Process Engineer in our Water Team, you’ll lead the design of water and wastewater treatment processes across major projects, guiding multidisciplinary teams and ensuring design compliance. You’ll engage with clients, vendors, and contractors to translate requirements into robust process solutions while advancing our digital design tools. Responsibilities

  • Lead and review process design for wastewater and water projects, including site surveys and client liaison
  • Perform hydraulic assessments, mass/energy balances, headloss and pumping system analyses
  • Develop basis of design, process equipment specs, PFDs and P&IDs
  • Produce Hazardous Area Classification and LoPA documents; participate in HAZOP/HAZID safety studies
  • Contribute to design stages from Feasibility to Construction Design, ensuring standards compliance
  • Collaborate with other discipline teams and stakeholders; mentor junior staff
  • Lead bid preparation and client interfacing; manage project delivery within budgets and schedules
  • Review and verify client deliverables (calculations, drawings, reports) to procedures and standards
  • Support and shape AECOM’s digital design strategy (BIM, Projectwise, intelligent P&IDs, in-house tools)

Key requirements

  • Extensive design experience delivering large-scale water engineering projects with multi-disciplinary teams
  • Chartered Member of a relevant Professional Institution
  • Experience in team leadership, mentoring, and line management
  • Strong collaboration and coordination skills with clients and stakeholders
  • Proven ability to manage projects, delegate tasks, and maintain quality and timelines
