Overview

In this role you shape strategic sourcing for maintenance and bio/technical services within a large, transformation‑minded utility. You’ll lead multi‑million‑pound sourcing programs, collaborate with senior leaders, and drive significant value across contracts. The role sits in a cross‑functional commercial team and offers exposure to major projects and industry partners. You’ll work on building robust market strategies and leading a capable sourcing team to deliver measurable savings and improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Lead end‑to‑end sourcing for works, civils, and high‑value goods/services from requirements to contract execution
  • Collaborate with Strategic Market Managers and senior stakeholders to craft integrated market strategies and a strong sourcing pipeline
  • Serve as lead negotiator on multi‑million‑pound savings and benefits, ensuring stakeholder alignment
  • Drive cost optimisation by challenging demand, delivering savings and cost avoidance, and supporting demand aggregation across common products/services
  • Lead and develop a team of Sourcing Managers, Specialists and Associates to foster collaboration and performance.

Key requirements

  • Degree‑level education plus a relevant postgraduate qualification (e.g., CIPS, RICS, MBA, MSc) or equivalent experience
  • Significant sourcing experience with a track record of savings delivery
  • Proven senior stakeholder management skills
  • Experience leading people and teams
  • Strong knowledge of sourcing processes, tools and methodologies
  • Excellent negotiation and dispute‑resolution skills
  • Experience solving complex problems in large organisations
  • Ability to work cross‑functionally and collaboratively
  • Works agreements experience procuring infrastructure projects
