Overview

In this role you will define and deliver the strategy for machine and AI access to ScienceDirect content. You will collaborate with product, technology, legal, and commercial teams to govern, measure, and monetize AI-enabled access. You will translate strategy into a product roadmap, lead delivery with engineering, and validate use cases through pilots and customer discovery. You shape entitlement models and access tiers while tracking value creation from machine usage. Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a strategy for machine and AI access to Elsevier’s content, identify viable use cases, and build stakeholder alignment
  • Translate strategy into a product roadmap and lead delivery with engineering, selecting delivery mechanisms (APIs, agent connectors) for each use case
  • Lead customer discovery and controlled pilots to validate machine-to-machine use cases and create requirements and business cases
  • Collaborate with legal, commercial, and technology teams to shape entitlement models and access tiers (entitlement, identity, metering, versioning, revocation)
  • Contribute to how machine usage is measured and reported to reflect full text value for customers
  • Monitor competitive and substitution landscape across open infrastructure, publisher gateways, aggregators, and AI platforms; feed insights into strategy decisions

Key requirements

  • Proven digital product management with high standards and clear prioritization
  • Data-driven decision making using experiments and analysis
  • Experience owning API, data or developer-facing products and shipping them with engineering teams
  • Ability to articulate between technical and commercial audiences; work with architects/engineers on data formats and delivery mechanisms
  • Experience with licensing, entitlement, packaging or pricing models is advantageous
  • Familiarity with AI content consumption (e.g., retrieval-augmented generation, agents, text and data mining) is a plus
  • Excellent communication skills; ability to influence and align cross-functional stakeholders without direct authority
  • Research or scientific background or understanding of scientists’ needs is a plus
