Overview

In this role you will design structural solutions for discrete work packages, supervise technicians producing 3D models and drawings, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver coordinated designs. You will conduct site visits for inspections and assess existing structures, reporting to the lead structural engineer. The Birmingham Structures Midlands team works on diverse projects across healthcare, commercial, education, retail and rail sectors from inception to site completion. Responsibilities

  • Design structural solutions for defined work packages and produce reports, calculation packages, and specifications
  • Supervise technicians in creating 3D models and drawings communicating structural concepts clearly
  • Collaborate within multidisciplinary teams to deliver coordinated designs
  • Communicate design solutions verbally and through sketches, drawings, writing, and presentations
  • Visit sites to inspect construction work and assess existing structures
  • Report to the lead structural engineer on project-related activities
  • Engage with multidisciplinary design teams including external consultants to contribute to project success

Key requirements

  • Engineering degree with progression toward Chartered status (MIStructE / MICE)
  • Working knowledge of structural engineering principles and Eurocodes
  • Developing understanding of analytical techniques and design software
  • Interest in low carbon design and embodied carbon assessment
  • Willingness to take responsibility for designs and support less experienced team members
  • Security clearance required prior to appointment
