Overview
In this role you contribute to rail structure assessment within CAFA, delivering technically sound remits, calculations, and reports. You work on site for inspections and provide on-site technical leadership where needed, while ensuring compliance with standards and AMEY’s safety and environmental policies. You mentor junior staff, liaise with clients, and help keep projects on time and within budget. This is a collaborative, development-focused opportunity in a diverse team that shapes railway asset knowledge and practice.

Responsibilities
- Prepare and check assessment/remits, calculations, reports and drawings to meet standards and client needs
- Conduct site inspections and provide on-site technical leadership
- Ensure compliance with project specifications and HSEQ requirements
- Apply industry best practice and engineering judgment within the team
- Mentor less experienced staff in drawings, calculations and reporting
- Engage with clients and third parties to maintain strong relationships
- Support CDM and health, safety and environmental compliance across assessments
- Assist in cost estimation and delivery of commissions to programme and budget
Key requirements
- Degree in an appropriate subject (Bachelor or Master)
- Significant railway structure inspection, assessment and design experience
- Experience with materials including historical materials (e.g., cast iron, wrought iron)
- Knowledge of health and safety, environmental and sustainability legislation
- Experience with local and national clients (e.g., Network Rail)
- Experience delivering designs/assessments to Highways England or Network Rail standards
- Driving licence preferred
